With Kyle's parents we moved further into Vietnam, and high on everyone's list was Halong Bay, of course. Famous for its archipelago of soaring cliffs, Halong Bay's stunning maze of islands made stunning scenery for our two day cruise. I hadn't realized how many cliffs there would be, we are talking hundreds, maybe thousands in every direction! Although we enjoyed a stunning sunset & hilltop views, unfortunately Halong Bay is a bit too famous for it's own good. Overcrowded waters & islets pained with trash from tourism left me a bit sad.
We were lucky enough to celebrate a crew member's birthday the night of our cruise. Unexpectedly invited below deck for a surprise, we were greeted with a half dozen red-faced locals excited to teach us how to say cheers in Vietnamese. "One, two, thee, DZO!" followed by chugging the entire glass. Admittedly fuzzy, this was one of my favorite memories from our night on the bay.
